I love lemons!  They are sunny and fresh and remind me of summer. My favorite morning ritual to sit quietly while I journal and enjoy a hot cuppa.  Not tea but lemon water.  I’m not alone.  Many yogis, meditators and health enthusiasts alike enjoy a warm brew of warm water and lemon in the early hours of the morning.  You know what they say… when life gives you lemons boil the kettle!

Have you ever noticed that when you wake up from a good night’s sleep, you that you are thirsty?  Your thirst is a clear indication that you are dehydrated.  Before you head into the kitchen for your morning cup of Joe its recommended that you drink at least 8 oz of water.

Adding lemon to that water is refreshing and has many health benefits. Did you know that lemon water will reduce your heart rate and increase blood flow to your brain?  More blood flow means clearer thinking.  Even the best cup of coffee can’t do that!

What’s so special about lemons anyway?

  1. They are rich in vitamin C

Vitamin C boosts your immunity.  At this time we need to ensure we are doing everything we can for a strong immunity to fight infections and viruses.  Especially now with Coronavirus running ramped.

2. Anti-inflammatory

It is well known that many diseases stem from constant inflammation in the body.  If this simple yellow fruit can help fight inflammation then it’s an easy way to help your body stay healthy!

3. Help you absorb iron

Lemons contain vitamin C and citric acid which may protect against anemia by ensuring that you absorb as much iron as possible from your diet.

4. Have an alkaline effect in the body

It’s completely counterintuitive because a lemon in its natural i=state is obviously very acidic. However, once it’s been metabolized by your body it actually becomes alkaline with a pH well above 7 which is neutral, neither acidic or alkaline.

5. May Help flush the body of toxins

Fresh lemon juice is thought to have a detoxifying effect that can purge toxins from the blood and help assist in removing harmful compounds from your body.

6.  They taste good!

With all of these benefits to your health lets raise a glass and the next time life brings you lemons (or you bring a few home from the store) Boil the kettle and enjoy!

Check out this lemon-flavored morning moment!

Cheers!
